How do I use fonts on my PC?
You'll be dealing with .zip files. When you download a file from my website, remember which directory you saved it to. Now, unless your computer can automatically access .zip files as though they are directories, or you already have an unzipping program, you'll need to download something like
Winzip. No matter which program you use to open the .zip file, extract the .ttf file(s) from the .zip archive to an external directory, or your desktop. Now you need to install the font. Assuming you are using Windows, go to the Control Panel, and then "Fonts." You are now in the "Fonts" folder. Go to "File," and "Install New Font." In the new dialog box, find the directory to which you extracted your .ttf file. Select the font, and then hit "OK." You should now be able to use your font in applications such as text or graphic editing programs.
NOTE: If you did not see the "Install New Font" option in the "File" menu, you can simply drag and drop your .ttf file from the extraction directory to the "Fonts" folder (in the Control Panel.)
HINT: Apparently, if you would rather not install a font, you can simply double-click on the .ttf file to open its sample/information window. Keeping this window open, the font will be available to use in your applications.

How do I use fonts on my Mac?
You'll be dealing with .sit, .hqx, .bin, .sea, and .zip files. When you download a file from my website, remember which folder you saved it to. You will need something like
StuffIt Expander to open these archives, and it's likely that your Mac came with it installed. With StuffIt Expander or another similar program, expand the archive and extract the font file(s) to some external folder. Now you need to install the font. Go to your System Fonts folder by clicking on "Macintosh HD," then "System," then "Fonts" (NOTE: If you're using Mac OS X, go to ~/Library/Fonts.) Drag and drop the font file(s) onto the System Fonts folder. You may need to restart your computer or your applications. You should now be able to use your font in applications such as text or graphic editing programs.

How do I convert fonts on my Mac?
If are a Mac user and you would like to use a font for which I only have a PC download, you still may be able to use the font if you download something like
TTConverter. Note that if you are running OS X, your computer will already recognize TrueType fonts without having converted them. Also note that this program will only convert between Mac and PC TrueType fonts and between Mac and PC PostScript fonts. You cannot convert any TrueType to any PostScript, and vice versa. After you convert the desired font, install it using the installation instructions in the previous FAQ answer.

I downloaded a font and it's not working on my computer!
Did you try closing out your text/graphic editing program and opening it again? Also, keep in mind that some fonts do not contain complete character sets. For some letters (sometimes the whole uppercase or lowercase) there may be square or rectangular boxes or even spaces instead. Did you unzip/unstuff/uncompress the file downloaded? You must do that first. And you can always try resetting your computer. At the very least, check out the
Microsoft or Mac websites for font issues.

When I'm typing with my new font, all I get is squares/rectangles!
Some fonts do not contain complete character sets. When you try typing a missing character you may only get a square/rectangle or even a blank space. It's only that; there is nothing wrong with the font and nothing wrong with your computer.

The font I downloaded messed up my computer!
I am not responsible for the behavior of these fonts, or how you use them. Use at your own risk, although you might be a tiny bit silly if you were too paranoid to use a font.

You don't have the font I want.
I don't/can't have all of them.

Some of your fonts have disappeared. Why?
As time goes on some font authors decide not to allow (re)distribution of their fonts anymore. So I have to remove them.

You have a broken link/image.
This is something I'd like to fix. However, if it's a font author's webpage, and you don't know the correct URL, you need not contact me about it. Many font authors require that I link to a certain URL in order to distribute their fonts, but some of those URLs no longer work. Anything else,

You have a font that shouldn't be on here because of copyright, distribution rules, etc.
When I redid Who Fonted, I looked at every single thing in the .zip AND .ttf files to make sure I wasn't doing just that. If I've made a mistake somewhere, please don't sue me!

What happened to the .zip packages?
I had to get rid of them because they used too much bandwidth.

What does Who Fonted mean?
I think you know what it means.

What's Orchestrareal?
Just my little domain. The word comes from a song by Grandaddy.

When are you going to finish the categories?
They'll never be finished. I'm always working on them.

Are you really ad-free?
Yes! Free yourself of ad-filled worries at this website.

Did you ever have ads?
For a split second, way back in the day, I had a couple. I took them down soon after out of guilt.

How long has your webpage existed?
Since 1999! Its location has moved, however.

What does it mean if I get a popup at your site?
You have spyware on your computer. It has nothing to do with my webpage and the popups are not from it.

Can you link to me?
Sure! But it has to be a fontsite. And you have to link to me too. Just
click here for the link submission form.

Do you have any original fonts?
I sure do, although it's been forever since I made one.
Click here for my personal fonts website.

Can you find (insert font name) for me?
No. It doesn't matter what the circumstances are, even if you once had it on your computer and you accidentally deleted it. Just go to
Google and type in the font name plus the word "font", and see what you can find. I don't have magical font powers and I would have no more luck than you in finding a font. If you post at the Talk Board another user might help you.

If I send you an image with some text on it, can you tell me what font it is?
Sorry, no. Post at the
Talk Board and maybe another user can help you. You can also use MyFonts.Com's famous WhatTheFont submission tool.

Can you help me make a font or webpage?
Please don't ask me that. I don't have the time, and there are several webpages out there to help you with it. Do a search on
Google.
